Once you have mastered a few basic color guidelines, understood basic arithmetic and found a few fair isle motifs you love, the rest just falls in place. In this class, Lee will help you to understand basic color theory, teach you how to mix and match motifs so the math works, and most importantly, give you permission to make it up and fail once or twice! Your first fair isle design may not be perfect, but you will take away the skills to build the next one. In this class, you’ll learn a german twisted cast on, how to hold a color in each hand, handy tips to keep your colors popping, the math of a hat and the confidence to build your own charts.
Necessary Skills: You must be able to knit in the round, understand swatching and why gauge matters, follow basic chart and pattern directions and have an open mind to give yourself permission to DESIGN!!!
Materials list: 3 - 8 colors of yarn of your choice and the appropriate 16: circular and double pointed needles for your yarn choice, stitch markers, marking tape, and an open mind.
Instructor will provide books with sample motifs for you to find inspiration, graph paper and colored pencils for you to play around with motifs.
